Hisar Restaurant is located just outside the city walls, and really just outside the walls, through the Canubulat
Gate - the old city wall is actually at the back of the restaurant. This cheerful restaurant is a family affair,
run by Hüseyin, his wife and his mother. Simple, freshly prepared meals are on the menu. All sorts of grilled meats -
lamb chops, şeftalı (Cypriot sausages), homemade meatballs, meat skewers, grilled chicken wings, liver skewers,
Adana kebab and the special mixed grill. All accompanied with grilled vegetables, fries, fresh salads and bread - very
serious eating here!
Every week they serve up a delicious local Cypriot dish called fırın kebabı which is lamb braised very
slowly in a wood-fired oven with potatoes and onion and wild herbs. The lamb is cooked until it is so tender you can
eat it with a spoon - if you smell it cooking, you have to stop and try it! Hüseyin and his family are charming
and really make you feel welcome. Excellent value for money.
